My girl Karli Henriquez stopped Lady Ga-Ga at the KIIS' LA 102.7 station to get some fashion tips. Lady dishes it to the guys and the girls. Hairbows for girls and plain white tees for guys.
This is one of my favorite pictures. Well it has me in it, Katy Perry, hot model Colin Owens, and one of my favorite designers for "Chatav Ectabit" Clifford Fong. Oh Cliff, I loved your Chanel Sailors Coat!
Emma Roberts and Zelda Williams looking hot with some amazing belt action going on.
Katy Perry is giving me new haircut, new single, new year.
Katy Perry's love interest in her new video "Thinking Of You," actor Matt Dallas.
Singer JoJo brings in the New Year in a purple Herve Leger dress, and a cropped leather jacket.
Sarah Silverman is a genius. I love her comedic timing and just how she can act of anyone. I worked on dressing Sarah for People Magazine's Most Beautiful People shoot alongside Johnny Wujek. She was so nice and fun to work with. Yeah me!
Don't forget to TiVo The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central Thursdays at 10:30pm/9:30 central.
My profile was THE "Featured Profile" on the front page of Myspace Fashion today. Also featured under "Trend Spotting" is my new fast friend and latest obsessionLady Ga Ga. You're welcome myspace fashion... I mean, thank you!
The November issue of Details Magazine are sporting the boys of the CW's Gossip Girl. Penn Badgley and Ed Westwick are giving me their best pout while Chace Crawford didn't get the pout memo and went for the death stare. OMFG!
Katy Perry looks amazing as she arrives at the Patrick Demarchelier's exhibition party last night in Paris. Patrick is an amazing photographer who has shot for every major magazine and has photographed people from Leonardo Dicaprio to the late Gianni Versace. Brilliant!
The five-time Grammy Award winning crackhead Amy Winehouse is being billed for $50,000 by designer Harvey Nichols. Amy went on one of her routine all night benders in a dress that was borrowed by the high-end store and at the end-ish of the night-ish Amy became violently sick and threw up all over the dress. Hahaha, duh! Anyways, "Miss Crackhouse" sent the dress back with all the other borrowed dress in the same box, ruining the other dresses. Needless to say they want their money. Well I say, "Fuck that! Its your own damn fault for lending her the dresses to begin with. You knew they weren't going to come back in one piece. It was a trap to make a quick sale."
I thought Desperate House Wives'Marcia Cross' stylist Jessica Pastor made an amazing choice choosing this dress by Elie Saab. Its tricky going with so much tulle, but I loved it. The length, embroidered top, and the taffeta belt all came together with such class.
I'm not the biggest fan of Lipstick Jungle's Brooke Shields, but she looked amazing in her fuchsia ruffled gown by Badgley Mischka. Loved the soft curls. This is my whole look!
And I Love, Love, Loved Lost star Evageline Lilly's Elie Saab couture. This muslin gown took me by surprise because usually your not using muslin unless your on stage in medieval times but it worked with the strips of sequin and tulle. Bravo!
Vanessa Hudgens arrived at the 6th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party in Los Angeles on Thursday wearing a fabulous pair of black webbed caged Givenchy heels.
Who do YOU think whored off the little black dress look the best at the Entertainment Weekly's 6th Annual pre-Emmy celebration in Beverly Hills on Saturday? Olivia Wilde ? Jennie Garth? Or Lauren Conrad?
Wow, how interesting. I wonder how 90120's Anna Lynne McCord managed to get all that poodle hair under that short bob wig. Well, in the game of fame same there are no winners; but since I made it up, I say Katy wins! She looks the best in her Dolce & Gabbana dress. You're welcome!
This was no surprise to me to see BRAVO's Million Dollar Listing's Chad Roberts at the Grand opening of HLNR store in West Hollywood, with Chad being a frequent visitor of the high fashion boutique Maxfield. So yes, this man loves his hair but he also loves fashion almost as much. Skinny tie anyone?
This is very true as of late. It turns out having an assistant is working out well for me. I told Jonathan, "Where I go you go." He took this a little to literally on the red carpet to the grand opening of HLNRstore on Robertson Blvd.
This little music vixen has posted a new picture on her myspace that I had to give some attention to. Check more of Mad Hatter Moretti on her Myspace Page. You're welcome!
Anne Hathaway on the cover of the October 2008 issue of W Magazine. I can imagine Mario Sorrenti, the photographer, saying to Anne, "Shoulders back, lips out, more hair faced taped, and pose, pose, pose."
Last night Blender Magazine toasted to Katy Perry. The VMA nominee showed up to the party looking flawless in her 80's vintage leather zip front dress and she shared a toast with boyfriend Travis McCoy and other BFF Shannon Woodward who sported a rather flossy (G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S. YES, the glamorous, glamorous. The flossy, flossy.) necklace by Lia Sophia. Later Katy found herself in a bloggers sandwich between Perez and I. Squuuuuuuuish!
The September issue of Paper Magazine features Perez Hilton's BFF Lilly Allen. Ok, so I have noooo problems with Lily and I love her music but I'm sorry, this Cover is the worst. Actually, I'm not sorry. It looks like a "stylist" puked on her, then handed her a nasty ass burger and regular, un-diet, Coke. Eeew and you know her breath is kickin after that burger. That must have been a joy for the photographer.
Jesse Marco is just 21 years old, but this native New Yorker, who has already established himself on the nightlife scene for his fast hands and keen ear, has now successfully crossed over into the fashion world.
Still a student at NYU, Jesse spins regularly at a number of boldfaced nightspots in the city (including Stam and Lily favorite 1Oak.) Oh, and did we mention that he counts Jay-Z and Kanye West, as well as fashion royalty Marc Jacobs and Kate Moss amongst his audience members?
Recently, in addition to spinning many venues like Rock the Vote's official Lollapalooza after-parties at the Hard Rock Hotel, a French Connection party, a post-CFDA awards bash hosted by IMG at Goldbar, and the Calvin Klein “Secret Obsession” Fragrance launch (that never saw the light of day), Jesse has also just signed a modeling contract.
In his first week with his agency, he shot a campaign for London (and soon-to-be New York) giant Topshop, and has also worked with fashion favorite Terry Richardson on a Uniqlo campaign.
But, as Mark Ronson once said, it’s Jesse’s prowess in the DJ booth that merits the most praise. “Jesse’s adept technically and knowledgeable about umpteen genres of music,” the Grammy-award winning producer told Page Six Magazine. And, assuredly, his recent line-up of gigs would indicate that the city’s tastemakers have taken notice of this fresh, young talent and the energy he creates.
You can check Jesse out at www.myspace.com/thedjjm, and of course, keep an eye out for him in TopMan when it opens on Broadway!
TARYN MANNING ON SET OF HER NEW MUSIC VIDEO "RUN BOY'
Actress/Singer Taryn Manning showed off her best moves during her music video shoot for "Run Boy" in Huntington Park, CA on Monday. I can't help but wonder where I've seen this look before. I have a feeling Taryn's Style icon is Rainbow Brite. Cute!
Claire Daines showed up to the Gucci Fashion Show in Rome on July 8th. With her very dapper, very hot, very Actor/Burberry model Hugh Dancy, Claire never looked better! Trust!
OK, so i'm in Miami and so is Fernando Torres. Just in case you don't know, Fernando is the hotter, younger, better version of David Beckham. Also, Fernando is the one who scored a first-half goal to defeat Germany 1-0 in the recent UEFA cup. He's been on my radar ever since my friend, and Pierre's sister, Liz introduced him to me as a player on Spanish club team Atletico Madrid and then as he transitioned into playing for Liverpool.
Here are actual stalker pictures of Fernando at the pool at the Ritz enjoying a hot dog and reading a magazine. See, hot soccer players are just like regular people. It's kind of sick I'm even writing about this. I must point out the head band. That's a European boy thing. I think its hot!
So Emile Hirsch whored this High-Fashion look styled down with a pair of blue jeans for the Speed Racer Premiere in Tokyo, Japan. Not long before, he whored this same-ish look in Milan for fashion week. FYI, Emile is the new face of Valentino's Spring 09 collection. I, myself, prefer the dressed down version of this Western cut tuxedo jacket. I think the dressed up version could have been pulled off with his hair slicked back and a different pair of glasses because he is giving me Benjamin Franklin in the more dressed up version. I adore Emile as an actor, so he can do no wrong. You're welcome! Which Emile do you like?
i previously posted a video of a presentation for yves saint laurent. here is a new video released that was presented for the YSL Spring/Summer 09 collection at Paris men's fashion and featuring actor jack huston. like the last YSL vid, this is a different approach to presenting a line. check it.
No, not in the way we would all like too. Justin Timberlake ads as Givenchy's newest fragrance spokesmodel for "Play" have been released. Ok I'll "Play" all day long.
Look what we have here. Two girls one dress . Dania Ramirez whored it on the red carpet and Katy Perry whored it during her Spike TV Men's Choice Awards. Who do you think whored it better? Dania or Katy?
As green-house gas emissions continue to climb and polar ice continues to melt, summer on Earth just might turn out to be a perpetual affair. As the temperatures rise, a new wardrobe is in order, as evident in the collective consciousness of the creative crew. Last year fashion designers sent out their adonis model troops marching clad in short-shorts, previewing looks for this spring and summer - it looks like our future will not only be a hot one, but one with shorter hemlines. For now, the look is not for the thigh-shy, but adaptation will occur if the need arises.
So I write about Katy Perry and well it has been a Katy P packed week. It started off with stylist Johnny Wujek and I teaming up again to style Katy Perry's record release party. That meant styling Katy, Perez Hilton, four band members, two models, Katy's super assistant and friend Susanna Sansone, Pierre Baltadano, and Andrew Garfield. So you can say we had our hands full. For Katy we had three changes: Arrival, Performance, and after party. Her arrival we did a Mermaid-esque gypsy look with a pink, sequined costume top and a tight green high wasted skirt by Elsie Katz paired with green, sequined shoes by Mui Mui. For Perez Hilton, we did a Harold Zedler ring master inspration. We filmed Perez's fitting for Myspace Fashion's The Fit so look out for that. Katy 2nd look was an ice cream dress by Jeremy Scott. Pink shoes by converse.
Katy's 3rd and final look was a yellow music note dress by Jeremy Scott and black and white bleeding shoes by Sergio Rossi
I was a Giant tomato, was meant to be a cherry, looked more like an apple. Shoes by Supra... You're welcome!
OF COURSE this isn't the best picture she's ever taken...ass!. It's all about picking and choosing to support an argument and that is what he is doing with 'lil gurl. I'm not sure why Perez picks on Rumer Willis so much, but I hope he has had a change of heart about her. Rumer is beautiful and I love her fashions. I bumped into Rumer that night; she was at the opening of the Beckley Boutique in West Hollywood on Thursday. Amy Smart is really nice!
Or maybe it was a launch for things you may find in your mother's closet - and not the cool Princess Diana mother. No, it's an English stepmother Camilla Parker-Bowles kind of closet. Miss Jones gave us designs from yesteryear, and not in a good way. Eek and ish and poo and doo-doo.
Yes! There is a reason why designers love Kate Bosworth. Clothes just hang on her. I think she looks very chic. Kinda hungry, but who cares, she'll stop herself from fainting by eating a piece of cheese once the lights go down in the Theater. Oh, and Kate is at a screening for "21" hosted by Calvin Klein.
Fashion designer Rami Kashou attends the Marks Restaurant 20th Anniversary Party held at Marks in West Hollywood. The party was to benefit the Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is a 24 hour 7 days a week suicide & crisis prevention helpline for gay and questioning youth.
Lauren Conrad on The Fit gives us a sneak peek into her Summer '08 collection. Lauren also talks a little about her favorite designers one including LA based designer Cynthia Vincent.
Matt Dallas working this gray suit by Theory. Other gray suite options are Ralph Lauren's Three-Piece angora suit from his Purple Label, Tom Ford's fourish piece suit, and Maison Martin Margiela gives us a lighter fabric with a light plaid touch in his two piece . You're welcome!
Pete Wentz follows the long list of celebrities that have put out their own clothing line. Pete is joining Nordstrom to design an exclusive junior sportswear line "emo-style". It's also rumored, by me, that Pete will soon be coming out with his own line of flat irons with cool neon colors that rock your hair. You're welcome.
Lauren Conrad Collection debuted Tuesday at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. I think the line is great considering this his her first go as a designer. Its nothing like Dior or Mc Queen but this stuff will sell.
You may know the face and the body of this Los Angeles resident, but now let me introduce you to the name: Eugen Bauder. 22 years ago, Eugen entered this world in a small snow covered village in Kazakhstan. At the age of 5 his mom moved them to Germany. Since being discovered by a picture his girlfriend took, he has shot with some of the greats; Mario Testino, Karl Simone, Tony Duran and many others.
This spring its time to roll up those pants. The high-water trouser shows no sign of receding. If you paid any attention to the mens spring/summer '08 collections you might have notice the 2 to 4 inch rise in mens pants. I used to rock this look in 2nd grade. I think it's hot for now. I don't think it will make its way into our summer of '09 so rock it now; I will be. You're welcome. The four pictures are of work from the designers that decided to ride this trend wave: Comme Des Garcons, D&G, Neil Barrett, Obedient Sons.
I think the name is horrible. Penelope and Monica are really hot! They make Mango look really hot and I'm sure it will sell just fine. This is a look at Mango's Spring line.
Browsing the website of one of my favorite artists, James Jean, I stumbled upon work he did for a new PRADA film called Trembled Blossoms that echoes the PRADA Spring/Summer 2008 collection and recently premiered at PRADA's New York epicenter store, . Check out the vid at PRADA.com and visit the site of James Jean to check out more of his vibrant and vivid work.
Katy Perry showed off her best in Betsey at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Rumor has it that these two are planning collaboration sometime soon. Of course Betsey's collection was filled with color and very 80's inspired. Purrrrfect for Katy Perry. I couldn’t help but notice Katy was missing something this go around at fashion week. Oh yes, ME! She just doesn’t seem has happy with out her daily dose of Markus Marquez. Oh well. Next time. Remember Kittle, you can NEVER LEAVE ME!
Wow the "Gossip"around town is that Taylor Momsen is giving Blake Lively a run for her Chanel Pearl platforms. Who do you think is doing it better? Blake or Taylor
via The Times Russia’s military forces just received a technological upgrade - not through weapons or armory but through the use of fashion (fabrics can be technology right?). Acollection of new military uniforms was shown to President Putin by Valentin Yudashkin, a famous clothing Russian designer, at a fashion parade at the Defense Ministry headquarters.
Wearing fur collars, peaked caps and gold embroidered tunics, the servicemen and women stood at attention as the Commander-in-Chief, Vladimir Putin examined the new looks yesterday and, was later said to have approved them for implementation.
The uniforms will get their first public unveiling in Red Square on May 9 in a parade marking the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in the WWII. In addition, President Putin will also reviving the Soviet-era practice of parading tanks and nuclear missiles as the parade moves past Lenin’s tomb. The uniform designs have been said to be an amalgam of past and present Soviet society, so the environment of their unveiling fits in perfectly with this.
The defense ministry spent around $2.9 million to commission the designs of new uniforms for their armed forces. Full-scale production is expected to begin later for an estimated $443 million.
I think that the updated looks are a good attempt at infusing fashion into the utilitarian usage of a military uniform but could the money be used for the better or is portraying the image of power and wealth worth it?
LOOKING PAST THE COVER ... i-D MAGAZINE GETS NEIL BARRETT AND SO DO I...
ID MAG ON NEIL-
" NEIL BARRETT made his name by getting on with the job. Working since the day he graduated from RCA in the late '80s, this is the man we can thank for men's minimalism, the man who men- including the likes of Justin Timberlake and Ewan McGregor- love to wear for its from-nowhere, going-somewhere aesthetic. Now an English boy in Italy for six years, Neil's nailed independent design through apprenticeships at the best of Italian stallions, Prada and Gucci, and some savvy advice from his granddad. The result? A little label taking on the brand behemoths and winning."
NEIL ON HIMSELF-
"I wear 100% Neil Barrett apart from underwear because we haven't done that properly yet. I mentally dress myself at 20, 30, 40, 50, for when I'm thin and young, for when I'm and old man, or gym-fit"
I love my friend Neil's work. I have had the privilege of seeing Neil's showroom in Milan and I can tell you first hand, Neil is taking men's fashion to the next level with taste and edge. To read more about this incredible artist pick up i-D Magazine's February issue. Also check out Neil's Myspace page here.
Neil Barrett was my favorite in Milan. Neil stuck to his rocker/dapper gentleman which is so my favorite style at the moment. Neil's '08 Winter collection included extra zippers, silver painted bow ties, and beautiful leather jackets.
Vivienne Westwood is bringing back the MC Hammer pants. Lover her!
DSQUARED2 gave me plaid.
LAVIN inspiration was a boy growing up to fast. That's exactly what I got from Lucas Ossendrijver's runway show. I thought it looked like these boys were playing in their father's clothes. I got it. I liked in a way. Bravo!
DIESEL PLAYS ROBIN HOOD AT SUNDANCE...TAKES FROM THE RICH AND GIVES TO THE NEEDY...
by Pierre Baltadano
Recently, Markus is the Drug was informed that Diesel won't be having a traditional gifting suite at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Instead Diesel will be giving the celebs a chance to put together outfits for some of the children from the In a Perfect World Foundation, a foundation started by Prince's ex-wife Manuela Testolini. At Sundance, the children will have artwork displayed and celebs will then be able to customize outfits that will be sent back to the kids. Now that is a gifting suite that REALLY gives.
The In a Perfect World Foundation is a program that partners with schools and community-based organizations to provide financial and expert assistance in hopes of helping children throughout the country to "become compassionate, socially-conscious, and responsible leaders."
In cruising around the virtual metropolis that is the Internet, I ran into a small blurb on the website of Indesign magazine about Australian fashion designer/artist Sruli Recht.
There wasn’t much content in Indesign’s little posting about Recht, but the Reykjavik-based artist’s experience in the studio of Alexander McQueen, a reference to shoes made for "throat-cutting thieves, and with a look akin to a mythological faun, he definitely caught my attention.
I always love insight into the minds of designers of any kind and Sruli Recht was definitely an interesting one. In navigating his site you can view many distinct pieces that are, without a doubt, a reflection of this artist storytelling imagination and design process. From face-covering capes, to a leather corrective brace, to minke dork (mink whale foreskin) shoes, Recht’s range of exploration in form, materials, and overall design shows up in a more whimsical, storybook way that makes me think of old age explorers and gangs of abandoned streets kids of a distant future.
hmmm... I've just bored myself with myself so instead...Check out his MySpace page or website for more on Recht’s wild mind.
HOW DID HOLLYWOOD DEAL WITH THE CANCELATION OF THE GOLDEN GLOBES?...
...They found another party to wear those beautiful gowns to... They always do! The Art of Elysium 10th Anniversary Gala. Now I saw some great dresses and some bad dresses. Nevertheless, Hollywood gets and A for effort. I of course did not make it - this fashion Guru stayed in. Well sort of. I took it easy and went to a dinner party, which also included a very, very fashionable crowd if I do say so myself. It turned into quite the busy weekend, but no need to name drop in this blog because if you scroll down and check out Jared Craft's blog you might find a few names on the floor. You're welcome.
Some of my favorite looks of the night - Ashley Olsen giving me goth chic in what looks like one Morticia Adams favorites, this long black dress, very soft, very comfortable, I think its from her own line The Row, paired with a belt, a black leather jacket by Rick Owens, a favorite with this crowd, and a roped black pearl necklace. Rumor Willis looked very beautiful and mature in this sleeveless silk chiffon gown by J Mendel, just a classic look with a 'lil punk chic added to it. Only just bordering on boring was Amy Smart in red...yes please! Racheal Bilson in this white Dior gown was looking classic, yet her hair style is leaving me wanting different. Also loved this Nina Ricci 2006 on Calista Flockheart, which I believe was also from Lars Nilsson's last NR collection right before Oliver Theyskens took helm.
The top of my Worst Dressed for this night was Patricia Arquette, who I still love in this wrong time, wrong place for a RED Sari. Now I love Rosario Dawson but something is a little off with the construction of this "Shannon cover your ears" Black velvet J. Mendel 2007 gown. And with Ali Larter in J Mendel 2008, well I didn't like the big rosette detail! Britney Snow oh no with that lace prom dress from Gucci Spring 2008 - maybe its just the way she wore it!... Hmm why am I so bitchy? Eew thats rude! You're welcome.
Well I'm tired of writing just as I'm sure you're tired of reading all about these crazy bitches and their dress up parties. Peace in the Middle East y'all.
Rona Gaye Stevenson is my fashion President! Her boutique Coquette is my home away from home and a fashion experience you must partake in. If you're in fashion or have any kind of appreciation for designs, you must check out Coquette. Let me tell you, it’s not just the clothes and the fabulous collection of jewelry you’ll fall in love with; its Rona and her adorable poodle Stevie.
With most high-end Vintage stores you can be intimidated about buying or even trying the goods, like a place whose name I dare not say (but its name rhymes with Taxfields). Walking into Coquette is a different experience. At Coquette there is no pressure because its residential setting lets you have fun dressing up as if you were just hanging out checking out your friend's closet. Rona will even whip up her delicious healing tea. Some just like to sit and enjoy a pink cigarette because in a place like this, you must enjoy the moment.
To read about Tia Williams' experience at Coquette click on the picture below. For more of Rona and Coquette click on the pictures of Rona.
I think this young veteran designer is just what this prestigious French couture house needs. At 15, this Columbian born prodigy was already showing a 30- piece collection for a collective show at Miami International Fashion Week and has not stop designing since then. In 2004, long-time supporter Cindy Crawford was lured from retirement to open and close for the young luminary. I can’t wait to see what he does for Ungaro. Spanish TV segment on Esteban
If you don’t know by now, then you just don’t know and you should really be schooled. This cool cat is proven to have some hot staying power. I’ve known Brian since we were both fake ID-ing it in the clubs. Now Brian’s all business and I love it! LA Weekly writes- “There was something that made me feel sexy about the unveiling of Brian Lichtenberg’s Spring and Summer Collection” Hipster Musings writes- “Brian Lichtenberg is the new Vivienne Westwood.” Hustler Of Culture writes- “Expect nothing short of amazing-ness.” This is just to name few of his raving reviews. Now Brianenciaga has a pop up store in the ever so growing hip/chic LA’s Downtown. ALSO CHECK BRIAN OUT AT-www.brianlichtenberg.com www.myspace.com/brianciaga
WWD takes notice of Katy Perry . In there recent daily issue Katy graces the cover on Wednesday.
WWD writes:
With her debut EP "Ur So Gay" out Nov. 20, Katy Perry is poised for the limelight. Between her cheeky lyrics and affinity for all things camp and vamp, she's ready for some attention.
Pretty preacher man's daughter makes good on her looks and big voice.
The Jessica Simpson story is a well-documented one, but this isn't about her, or her sister for that matter. Katy Perry, 22, is the new pastors' (plural, as in mom and dad) girl in town, and, ample bosom aside, she has little in common with the Simpsons' aw-shucks blonde and collagen act. Sure, the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter got her musical start singing in church in Santa Barbara, Calif., but one would never know it based on her debut EP, "Ur So Gay" (Capitol), set for a Nov. 20 release. Perry's full album, three years in the making, is due out in the spring.
In addition to an original ballad, "Lost," as well as a cover of The Outfield's 1985 hit "Your Love," the EP includes seven versions — clean, explicit, remix, a cappella, instrumental, etc. — of the title track, proof of Capitol's faith in its hit potential. With Perry's strong, slightly raspy voice belting out lyrics like "I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf while jacking off listening to Mozart" and a cheeky chorus of "Ur so gay and you don't even like boys," the song has a pop-and-vinegar ethos not unlike that of Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen.
"It's mostly inspired by that whole Emo, Sensitive Sally-type scene," says Perry, during a phone interview, of the song. "You know, guys with guy-liner who use flatirons. I was in that scene. I know boys in that scene. My littler brother was in that scene. I always just thought it was hilarious."
While she faults those Emo dudes for their flagrant vanity, Perry doesn't hold herself to the same standard. When the conversation turns to fashion, she perks up. "That's the subject I know best," says the self-proclaimed girly-girl before ticking off a list of her favorite designers: Jeremy Scott, Jovovich-Hawk, Alexander McQueen and Betsey Johnson. Although, she offers the last label with a disclaimer. "It's probably not the coolest thing to say," explains Perry. "I've always liked it but people are like, 'You like Betsey Johnson — you've probably never heard of Viktor & Rolf.' I'm like, 'Shut up. I like Viktor & Rolf, too.'"
In September, Perry made the rounds at New York Fashion Week, taking in Erin Fetherston, BCBG Max Azria and Preen, among others. She was thrilled to see one of her favorite items, the onesie, of which she owns at least five, get more play on the runways.
As far as her stage persona is concerned, Perry has two major influences: "I'm very inspired by Freddie Mercury and how flamboyant and theatrical he was," she says. "And my sense of humor is a little off in a Lucille Ball way. She's cute and sweet, but she's always kind of f--king up." Such big-personality influences demand high-drama clothes. Thus, Perry likens her performance look to that of a Vegas showgirl. "Not revealing like that, but very glittery," she says. "I used to go to the costume houses in L.A. like Warner Brothers and pull from the cancan or the cheerleading section. I would pose as a stylist but I'd really be styling myself."
Indeed, image-wise, Perry's a girl who knows what she wants. In an effort to prep for this story, she put together a look book on Style.com that included everything from Miu Miu to L.A.M.B. and sent it to her publicist, the writer and the stylist involved with this story. "I'm superparticular," Perry says. She's equally picky when it comes to her promo materials. In the past, Perry persuaded her label to enlist hip fashion photographers Terry Richardson and Ellen von Unwerth. And, most recently, hipster party photographer Mark "the Cobrasnake" Hunter, who's known for capturing downtown girls in various states of revelry, shot Perry and friends in a fountain near L.A.'s 5 freeway. Not exactly the stuff of her good-girl beginnings.
So, what do her devout parents think of their daughter's decidedly secular lifestyle? "My parents love me and want the best for me," says Perry. "They don't care what I do just as long as I remember who I am, have some integrity and respect and don't end up like, well, it sounds like Shmitney Shmeers."
